Focusing on the Future: Children

What is Circle K?

Circle K is a co-educational collegiate service, leadership development, and friendship organization with a worldwide membership, organized and sponsored by a Kiwanis club (Kiwanis Detroit #1) here at Wayne State University. Although our group just got reinstated as of last year, it has been in existence as far back into the 80s. We are a self-governing organization that determines our own service activities, such as Breast Cancer Walk at Belle Isle Ford Field, Gleaner Community Food Bank, & supporting Children’s Hospital to name a few. CKI is the largest service organization of its kind and it promotes numerous opportunities to link with service-learning and character education programming.

Our mission is to develop college and university students into model-like citizens and leaders to instill the idea of a lifelong commitment to serving the people of the world, specifically gearing towards the children.

CKI has adopted a service initiative focus, “Focusing on the Future: Children,” which is the major emphasis program for all CKI clubs.

The underlying message CKI members receive is that every member is a leader, developing skills from planning projects, leading meetings, and being part of a team that helps others.
